Whats im my bag for thailand and cambodia this time

So I've decided that my kit for this trip to thailand and cambodia will be much smaller than my normal photo kit. It consists of a fuji x100, 1 nikon speedlight for off camera strobist stuff, 2 pocket wizard plus 2s, an umbrella box like I use for weddings and a monopod for attaching the strobe and umbrella box to.

It just got too heavy and I dont enjoy using the big 5dmk2 with a 24-70 in the street, its also too intimidating and when your trying to blend in in asia with a red beard and freckled skin the last thing you need is a black expensive thing attached to your forehead. It makes people act different.

I do have some mini assignments for Destiny Rescue, they need some shots for the web and slideshows as well as for some big banners for conferences and such. Luckily I have already tested the x100 in the studio on a shoot with the ten tennors' Boyd Owen. Sharp and nice!

I think ill call this new travel kit my ninja kit. Although I would like fuji to make an x100 200mm for telephoto. I would just carry both cameras because, as you can see the fuji is almost as small as a pocketwizard.

One of the cool factors of the x100 is a 1000th synch speed great for sunny places.

It all fits in a crumpler haven Large which goes inside my ratty old travel satchel for stealth as well.

Ill let you know how it goes, Im more likely to shoot more pictures with this kit I think because of access and convenience, it will also be a test of my creative skills shooting with a prime the whole trip, so lets see.

Erin and Marc married and Tattooed in bali

This year I was asked if I would like to photograph some weddings in Bali for Global Weddings. Global are a wedding planning company based in Australia who organize everything from flowers to wedding photography and legal stuff in locations like Thailand, Bali and Fiji. Being a warm weather loving scuba diving kinda guy I jumped at the chance to spend a month in the sun.

So Mel and I packed our bags and headed over.

The first thing you experience in bali is the porters at the airport, GRRR you have no choice, they grab your stuff and wheel it out to a taxi and then ask for a tip. The problem is that you only have big bills and well they don't deserve 20 dollars. Just so you know if your ever there.

Bali is warm, the food is good and everything is affordable so i like the place.

Photographing weddings there has its challenges though. The first is finding the villas, bali doesn't have many street signs and the GPS app I downloaded for my Iphone, well it was a bit quirky with spellings. Another challenge is loading my honda scooter with lighting stands and camera gear, and its hot.

Apart from that it is absolutely beautiful. In the rice fields, when the sun is going down and casting a warm glow through cooking fires across tops of long, dewy stems in immense fields, well its magic, totally my kind of backdrop. The sun light has this kind of different look there too. Its just nice. And the locals are just lovely and helpful.

Being a wedding photographer has its perks, one is food and I have to tell you I have never eaten a better beef rendang, slow cooked, sweet, just yum. I think global have made some amazing choices when selecting their wedding suppliers.

My day with Erin and Marc’s was great fun, they are a cool relaxed couple who love tattoos, birds, bali and making everyone welcome. I felt included from the start. Being the cool eccentric people they made it interesting for me to photograph in the best way.

Oh yea the tattooed thing, at the last minute we organised for them to have their wedding bands tattoed on, Marc was super psyched and surprised.

Thanks Erin and Marc, all the best.

My amazing dream

Hi sir Richard, no Idea if you will ever read this but I thought you might find it funny and cool. My dream last night. I'm sitting on the roof of a building underneath a canopy with Richard branson talking about the world and exploration and stuff. When All of a sudden the sky goes black and people start screaming and running into the street. I'm terrified and think it's the end of the world. Richard and I are in the street and he bravely sais to me "don't worry it's a solar planetary eclipse, just watch it's going to be awesome." we continue looking at the sky which is lighting up with auroras and commets, then we see the sun go behind the moon. A flaming ring of fire in the sky. Then! All the planets in the solar system fly in and cross over in the sky. Two of the planets slightly touch as they pass making a massive explosion and we think. "that's it were done for"! Richard and I are kneeling on the ground in fear. Then! There's another light in the sky, it's an enormous multi colored space ship," wait isnt that!!" "the ELO jukebox spaceship?" ELOs I'm alive starts playing from the Xanadu sound track while the ELO spaceship flys across the sky till it covers it all. We stand there amazed, it feels like the year 3000 and everybodys laughing and crying. Richard turns to me and sais, " you know what pisses me off though, I wish I'd thought of that. Bloody ELO." 14 8 10 dream Thanks Corey sleap Sent from the iPod of corey e sleap
